Who we are

Established over 30 years Buongiorno Italia in St Albans is run by Antonio Picciuto and his friendly staff. Antonio prides himself on stocking only the finest top quality products. From seasonal fruit and vegetables, including Italian Fennel, wild mushrooms, vine tomatoes, and prickly pears, to Italian Cheeses, pasta, pesto, wines salami, Parma ham olives and antipasti –
in fact, everything you need for an authentic Italian kitchen, which is why Buongiorno Italia is so popular with Italian Locals and all food lovers. In Fact it is the kind of shop you expect to see in a small Italian village not a bustling English city. This pleasant welcoming deli was the winner in the Local Gem Category in the 2009 St Albans Food and Drink Festival , and winner in the food and drink category at the St Albans Retailer of the year awards 2010, is the city's  longest established Delicatessen.

Buongiorno Italia Started as Franco Stores just three doors away from where it is situated now. Opened by Francesco and Immacolata Picciuto in 1978, they were one of the early pioneers of purveyors of Fine Italian Foods in St Albans, their clients were mainly discerning Italians and adventurous English people looking for authentic traditional food. The Friendly family run shop was packed from floor to ceiling with Italian food we now know as everyday essentials Long before popular TV cooking programmes would make pasta, salami, olive oil, pancetta and parmesan regular everyday shopping list ingredients. Along with his brother and sister it was here that the present owner, Antonio grew up learning the trade, selecting fine food alongside his parents and taking the helm of the business in 1991.

Special Events

We are very proud of our wine tasting evenings which we hold twice a year one in spring and at the end of November, just in time for the festive season.

These are special evenings where clients can select wines from our featured producers and specially selected wines from our suppliers which are offered at a discount for all orders received on the evening.

As well as wine we have a delicious selection of olive oil to sample plus cheeses and charcuterie from the deli especially anything new that we have introduced to our extensive product range. These evenings are well attended and enjoyed by all who come and there is always a collection for a chosen charity , in the past we have raised thousands of pounds for Great Ormand Street Hospital, Teenage Cancer Trust, Downs syndrome Association, and Grove house to name a few deserving charities.

Please leave a review for Buongiorno Italia Foodstore

I bought some pizza dough and pizza sauce from Boungiorno. It all came to under £5 and made enough pizza’s for 6 people. With the added cheese it came to around £1.50 each and was the best pizza I have ever cooked at home. This was clearly down to the perfectly prepared dough. Who needs pizza express, get yourself down your local deli.
