Espana restaurant is an independent, award winning Spanish tapas restaurant set in a 14th Century St Albans courtyard.

We serve an exciting range of authentic, home cooked tapas dishes, complemented by enticing wines, beers and spirits, all served with sense of style and individuality. Originating in Medieval Spain, our tapas are presented in small dishes and bowls, meaning that you can experience a rich variety of tastes and flavours, all reflecting the passion and fire of this fascinating culture and people.

Informality is central to the Espana’s experience and guests are encouraged to share dishes as they arrive at the table. The two candle lit dining rooms seat up to fifty, with the beautifully planted and partly covered courtyard offering a unique al fresco dining area.

Marco’s is ideal for an intimate dinner for two, groups of friends and relatives or larger parties who wish to book the entire restaurant for a unique Spanish celebration.

I have been to Marcos on numerous occasions and have always left with a full belly. The food is absolutely spot-on, the staff spend time with you going through the vast menu and it doesn’t hit the wallet too hard.

Myself and my friends fancied a change from the normal Friday night curry and ended up at Marco’s Tapas bar. What a fantastic restaurant. The food was spot-on and the portions were enough to see us through the whole weekend. We will certainly be going back.

Marcos is a lovely place to visit. Situated in the heart of St Albans city. The intimate setting works very well. The food is very authentic Spanish tapas, great portion control. I would recommend Marcos. Not that they have much competition being the only Tapas restaurant in St Albans.

Went to España on Sunday evening for dinner and it was absolutely fabulous. Food was really good (they have a selection from different regions - nice to see a dish from the Canary Islands!) and the service was bar none. Unfortunately the was no waiting staff but the restaurant still ran efficiently and very well nothing was too much. A very welcoming atmosphere and venue. Highly recommended.

I went to Espana with 3 other friends. We ordered 2 tapas each. Which with portion sizes we probably should have ordered a couple more. What was served tasted very nice and authentic spanish tapas. They also ran out of bread and seeing as it was only 9.30pm wasn’t very good. So in summary, food was great, no bread not great.

Service was a joke staff spent more time talking to friends than serving. 40 minute wait for bill which was wrong. No one seems to be in control, such a shame as food is good, service is a joke and will go broke in a matter of weeks.

Went to Espana on Saturday 7th August and had a great time. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and portions were a good size. Nice cozy atmosphere and spotlessly clean. Will definitely go again.
