Went to a wedding reception here last night. Nobody would deny that Sopwell Hotel is in a delightful setting and potentially perfect as an 'occasions' venue. I was an evening guest, but was assured the day, wedding breakfast etc had been wonderful. But in the evening the three function areas, all adjoined share the patio area and vast gardens (patio is partitioned by trellis). The function I attended was in the middle,on one side was a prom ball. On the other I'm not sure what but it involved at least fifty young lads aged between I would say eight and fifteen. THEY RAN WILD! Not disciplined by the adults in attendance, they chased through herbatious borders, scooped up handful after handful of gravel from the landscaped area around the water feature and lobbed it at each other and into the water, stones were thrown as their exuberance increased. Raced into the other function areas. The smaller children attending the wedding could not be allowed outside. While I firmly place the blame for this behavior with the adults accompanying this group, the hotel management should definitely have 'stepped in'.
As we left at 11.00 and headed for the car park The first of the 'Prom Group' was vomiting on the patio, nice!
Staff were not around, tables left laden with glasses and bottles, it all looked like a n accident waiting to happen to me.
I really urge anyone booking this venue for their special event to find out what other happenings they are sharing their space with.

What am amazing venue, we too went to a wedding reception and it was breathtaking. Every fine detail was met from the welcome to the drinks, food, disco/band etc... The food was the best i’ve had in a long time. Certainly the best wedding Breakfast. I know if cost quite a lot but the new bride says it was worth every penny. I hope more of my friends get married at Sopwell House.

Having just returned from a Chamber of Commerce lunch I must say Sopwell House is a great venue. The staff looked after us very well, they catered for well over 300 people and the food was very nice indeed. The gardens are magnificent.
